How do I find a medical facility on my trip?

If you, or someone traveling with you, gets sick, hurt, or needs any type of medical attention, you will want to seek reliable medical help as quickly as possible. Of course, if you will also make a claim on your travel insurance, this is a necessary step in the process. An illness or injury must be verified by a medical doctor before you can cancel your trip or interrupt it and return home, for example.

The best way to find a medical facility on your trip is by calling your travel insurance assistance services hot-line, which you can find on the policy certificate.

The travel insurance toll-free numbers can be called from anywhere in the world. If you are outside the U.S. and Canada, you will call the travel insurance company collect and you may not be able to complete that call without the assistance of an operator.

What if you need language translation help?

If you are traveling in an area where the language is unfamiliar to you, you may need translation services to arrange for emergency medical transportation by ambulance or when you arrive at the medical facility. The folks who can do that are at the other end of your travel insurance assistance services line.

What if the injured or ill traveler needs transportation?

It’s also especially important – in the event that the ill or injured traveler needs emergency transportation or evacuation to a medical facility – that your travel insurance provider knows as soon as possible because they will be the ones to make those arrangements for you. The earlier they know you need help, the better.
