It’s understandable when you’re facing an unhappy medical diagnosis to want to sneak in a trip-of-a-lifetime before you continue treatment.
If you are ill, however, and you will need surgery or further medical treatment, your travel insurance provider will not consider your condition to be medically stable (a requirement to avoid the pre-existing medical exclusion). Pre-existing medical conditions are excluded by default from all travel insurance plans – even if you purchase your trip insurance within the 10-14 day grace period.
This means if something happens to cause you to cancel your trip or to seek medical care on your trip, your claims won’t be covered because you were not medically stable when you purchased the trip.
