Travel Insured vs Trawick: Which Travel Insurance Is Better?

In shortTravel Insured goes higher at the top (Platinum's $500,000 of medical against Trawick Pathway Premium's $200,000, both with $1,000,000 of evacuation) and frees children 17 and under on Deluxe and Platinum, which Trawick does not offer. Trawick's medical is primary on every plan, and Pathway Plus is a strong mid-range plan with a 14-day waiver. Both are on the comparison.

Travel Insured and Trawick sell to the same traveler and answer the same question differently: Travel Insured puts its money into Deluxe’s $250,000 of medical and $500,000 of evacuation at a mid-range price, Trawick into primary medical on every plan. This page puts the plans side by side from the insurers’ own plan documents, says which one wins for each kind of trip, and shows the numbers that decide it.

What the plans say

Travel Insured’s strengths are Deluxe’s $250,000 of medical and $500,000 of evacuation at a mid-range price, free children on Deluxe and Platinum, Platinum’s $500,000 of medical and $1,000,000 of evacuation; its weak spot is Essential’s $200,000 of evacuation and no cancel for any reason on it, which makes it a domestic-only budget plan. Trawick’s strengths are primary medical on every plan, Premium’s $200,000 of medical and $1,000,000 of evacuation, a 21-day window on Premium; its weak spot is Essential’s $25,000 medical limit with a $100 deductible, and no free-kids benefit. Both refund 100 percent of the insured trip cost for a listed cancellation reason, both include a 24-hour assistance line, and both are underwritten by large insurers; the difference between them is the limits and the upgrade rules above, not the paper.
